For those unfamiliar with the whole lunar cycle business when it comes to wine, there are many who take it quite seriously. Essentially, the main gist is that you have: fruit days, flower days, leaf days, and root days. These, along with moon phases dictate a great deal of how you go about growing your vines, picking, pressing, bottling, etc. When it comes to drinking, it follows in the same order as listed that those are the optimal days for a wine to taste its best. For reference and experimentation, this Sunday and Monday are the last two most optimal “fruit” days in January.
For some time, the Rovira Carbonell family who own Mas d’en Gil in Priorat have release a little business card sized version of the calendar. Being practitioners of biodynamic farming, this is rather important to them as you must follow these cycles to be certified as biodynamic. But, to step it up a little this year, they’re now offering a dishcloth (“drap” in Catalan) version of the calendar that one would assume to be a bit harder to misplace and also serves a dual function.
