For those who are unfamiliar with the event, every year since 1912, San Francisco has hosted an annual foot race called, Bay to Breakers. What started as a simple, 12km race across a city that was still rebuilding from the horrible 1906 earthquake morphed throughout the decades in to a zany, “only in San Francisco” type of race where people dress up in silly costumes to run the race and have a good time.
In the last decade or so, getting blindingly drunk during the race has become the focal point unfortunately. As this year was the 100th running of the race, not only did one of us run the race, but the organizers also tried as hard as they could to crack down on the rampant drinking and make the race a more sane celebration of all that’s great about San Francisco. Naturally, this alcohol crack down received reactions in the form of some peoples’ costumes, which we present a selection of the wine-related accoutrement, below.
