The fourth annual Most Festival has kicked off this week. Here’s a little overview from lastest article in Barcelona Miniguide
Most is a film festival in Penedès with a focus on wine and cava that grows bigger every year. Of course the genre of auteur wine films can be a bit narrow in focus, so they screen other films as well that fit the general vibe of the festival.
In addition to the screenings and being able to wander among the vineyards when the projector isn’t going, most of the films come with a wine pairing, all the rage these days, orchestrated by sommeliers in the area. So in case you wanted to know what film pairs with Xarel·lo from Penedès, they’ve got you covered.
Those who haven’t seen the film Somm should check it out as it gives a good insight into the world of people crazy enough to study for – and generally fail – the Master Sommelier exam. Also hitting the blast-from-the-past category are Alexander Payne’s comedy-drama Sideways as well as Mondovino, the debut film by Jonathan Nossiter from 2004 that is no end of good.
But the main film of the event is Nossiter’s new film, Natural Resistance which documents the movement in natural wines, especially focusing on Italy. For those who want to know more about this winemaking style, it should be an intriguing viewing, at least if Mondovino was any indication of the depths Nossiter will go to cover a subject.
For those who want a primer, read “The Natural Way” that appeared in Miniguide in April, 2013 and talked about the natural wine movement gaining ground right here in Barcelona. Nossiter will also be presenting his film with a talk and tasting on November 6th at Barcelona’s Institut Français.
Whatever your interest, be it grapes or cinema, this festival offers up an excellent excuse to head a little south of Barcelona and take it all in amidst fall in the vineyards.
