While savoring the last remnants of a Wertzberger tasting from the night before (which were quite awesome by the way), Josh Blissett from Burke Wine Brokerage popped on to my wine perch at the bar of The Barrel Room and proceeded to pull out a couple of bottles from their portfolio.
One that stuck out was this Poggio Lungo Morellino di Scansano from 2007 which, if internet searches prove correct, is part of the Morellino DOC in Tuscany. While Wine Spectator gave it 84 points, I give it, “buy a bottle and try” because the points system is crap. It’s a nice bottle of wine that would go well with meals, while still has enough character on its own for solo drinking. I’ll have to hunt down a bottle at Coit Liquor here in San Francisco the next time I’m up in North Beach.
You’ll have to pardon the rather horrid photo as it was one of the rare times when I didn’t have my proper camera which is naturally becomes the prime time when one wants to take a photo.
